3D mammography, also known as Tomosynthesis, is better at detecting masses in dense breasts than traditional 2D mammography.
Having dense breasts makes detection of cancer on mammography more difficult. Dense tissue appears white on the image, which can obscure cancerous tumours.
Indicates that the breasts are almost entirely composed of fatty tissue. Approximately 1 in every 10 women will have this result.
Indicates that there are some scattered areas of density, but that most breast tissue is not dense. Approximately 4 in every 10 women will have this result.
Indicates that there are some areas of non-dense tissue, but that the majority of breast tissue is dense. Approximately 4 in every 10 women have this result.
Indicates that almost all breast tissue is dense. Approximately 1 in every 10 women will have this result.
We know that 3D mammography, also known as Tomosynthesis, is better than traditional 2D mammography at detecting masses in dense breasts. Tomosynthesis (3D mammography) consists of taking tomographic slices of the breast at the same time as performing normal mammography, scanning very thin 1 mm slices and avoiding superimposition of tissue, which is especially useful in dense breasts.
We offer 2D and 3D mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI.
For those women who require a breast biopsy, we perform the following procedures:
