Abdominal wall

The abdomen is the area between the chest cavity and the pelvic region. It contains various organs that aid in food digestion and the assimilation of nutrients. The abdominal wall is formed by skin, fascia and several layers of muscles.

If there is pain in the abdominal area, the doctors at HC Marbella perform initial diagnostic tests to check whether the organs within the abdominal cavity are affected by a medical condition. Only when these conditions have been ruled out will they consider abdominal wall pain syndrome as a source of abdominal pain.

The abdominal cavity is covered by a layer of muscles that normally holds the organs in place. If a segment of the muscle wall loosens or weakens, a portion of an organ may protrude through the wall.  In most cases, these are hernias or tears in the abdominal wall.
