Embarrassment and false beliefs cause delay in remedying male impotence.

Sexual health is currently an important factor in a person’s quality of life. Sexual impotency, although it is not a problem that puts one’s life at risk, can cause undesirable consequences in a patient’s life, influencing their relationships and self-esteem and possibly even, causing patient’s depression.

At HC Marbella we encourage you to forget misbeliefs, overcome fear and embarrassment, and visit one of our urologists so that they can advise you on the treatment you need to keep enjoying satisfactory sexual relationships.

It’s not always impotence!

It is considered impotence when it is difficult to achieve erection at least 75% of the time. Eventually, not being able to achieve a satisfactory erection is completely normal and even happens in younger men. So, it is important to differentiate sexual impotency and a low libido. In erectile dysfunction, the man feels sexual desire, but is incapable of maintaining or having a satisfactory erection. When there is low libido, the erection is not achieved due to the absence of sexual interest.

Causes of sexual impotence: not only age.

Although age is popularly known as the main risk factor in erectile dysfunction, the diseases that arise with age are the main causes. A person who is older and completely healthy is totally capable of achieving satisfactory erections in the majority of cases.

“A healthy 65-year-old man may have more ‘potency’ than a 40-year-old man with a family history of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases,” we’re told by the Urology Unit at HC Marbella.

Diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, dyslipidemia, tobacco and alcohol-addiction, chronic renal failure, thyroid diseases, prostate surgery … are among the diseases/problems related to erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, many of the medicines used in the treatment of these disease also contribute to erectile dysfunction.

“Antidepressants and antihypertension medication are the main medications that contribute to erectile dysfunction.”

Impotence may also have a psychological origin.

The psychological factors are, also, responsible for this disease. Stress may cause a loss of concentration and a decrease in libido, interfering with male performance. Professional, financial, or marital problems are the most common causes.

There is a treatment for impotence.

In the treatment of erectile dysfunction, it is important to control chronic diseases, hormones, or medication that may be responsible.

At the end of the 90’s, a revolutionary sexual impotent treatment was produced with the market release of Phosphodiesterase type 5 Inhibitor (PDE-5i) drugs such as Viagra® (Sildenafil), Levitra® (Vardenafil) o Cialis® (Tadalafil). These pharmaceutical drugs should not be used without medical supervision due to adverse effects and their inefficiency if the patient is not first evaluated. For example, with testosterone deficiency, the excessive use of Viagra® will not solve the problem.

The previously named pharmaceutical drugs treat impotence with a 70% rate of effectiveness. When there is not a response, or the patient is unable to take them, there are other options such as the administration of a intra-penile or intraurethral injection. There are also devices that act by creating a void, which allows circulation of the blood towards the penis.

For those patients that do not respond to anything, there is an internal prosthesis with very good functional and aesthetic results.

If you have an impotence problem, consult us as soon as possible and get away from the misbeliefs. At HC Marbella we treat it with naturalness, seriousness, and confidentiality.
