Just like people, not all tumours are the same. Precision medicine allows us to understand the nature of the tumour and to design personalised treatments based on the genomic and molecular characteristics of each patient’s tumour.
 
At HC Marbella we have the means available to investigate each patient’s cancer with the aim of making the most appropriate therapeutic decision, increasing the effectiveness of treatment and reducing toxicity as much as possible, to offer a better quality of life.

Genetic Testing and Genomic Testing

Although they sound similar, genomic testing and genetic testing are not the same.
 

  • A genetic test is carried out on a sample of blood, saliva, or other tissue. It may indicate if you have any abnormality (also known as a mutation) in any gene that is linked to an increased risk of developing cancer

  • Genomic testing analyses a sample of a malignant tumour or a sample of blood (Liquid Biopsy) to calculate the activity level of certain genes.
     
    The activity level of these genes affects the behaviour of the cancer, including the likelihood of whether it will grow and spread. Genomic testing is used to help identify specific treatments, either already authorised or in clinical development, for each patient. This is the basis of personalised or precision medicine.

Treatments
