This surgical procedure, which is frequently undergone by men and women, consists of removing all the excess fat and skin in the abdomen and thus reducing its size, tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall, and significantly improving its contour.
You can choose between two types of tummy tuck:
▪ Partial tummy tuck or mini-abdominoplasty: This is indicated for patients who do not have a serious problem with excess skin in the abdominal region, and there is a mild accumulation of fat. A mini-abdominoplasty is used to avoid a more serious situation in the future. Scars are minor as the incision is in the lower part of the abdomen and the navel remains intact.
In some cases, local anaesthesia and sedation are used, and the surgery lasts between 1 and 2 hours.
▪ General abdominoplasty: This is indicated in patients with a severe accumulation of fat in the abdominal muscles and excess skin, in which case the scar will be more pronounced given that the incision is made from hipbone to hipbone above the pubic area. A second incision allows the umbilicus (navel) to be repositioned, and excess skin is removed. The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes between 2 and 3 hours.
Before surgery it is important to determine the following:
▪ Where the incision that allows us to remove all excess fat and skin will be located. Every attempt will be made to make the incisions as discrete as possible.
▪ Whether the resulting scar will be hidden below the bathing suit or underwear line.
