Blepharoplasty is generally performed on an outpatient basis, and so unless the surgeon recommends an overnight stay, the patient can go home the same day of the surgery.
We use local anaesthesia and sedation in the majority of cases, which totally relaxes patients and prevents them from feeling pain. The intervention can take between 1 and 2 hours.
There are two techniques:
▪ Open blepharoplasty: In this technique a minimal incision is made along the eyelash, the excess fat is extracted and the incision is closed with very fine stitches that also help tighten the skin.
▪ Transconjunctival blepharoplasty: In this case, the incision is made on the inside of the eyelid rather than on the outside, and the fat is removed through the internal moist lining of the eyelid. Stitches are not necessary, as the tissue heals on its own. This technique is usually performed on people under the age of 45, since the removal of skin is not required and no visible scars are left.
The results are immediate and definitive: the signs of fatigue and facial aging disappear, the face has a more youthful and healthy appearance, and the eyes appear larger.
