Breast lift

A mastopexy or breast lift is a procedure that is used to correct sagging breasts without reducing breast volume.

Through this surgical technique we can restructure and lift sagging or deformed breasts, and we can even use it with patients who want to reduce or relocate the nipple.

The degree of sag is determined by measuring the distance between the point where the clavicles meet and the nipple of each breast (NAC). Therefore, ptosis or breast sag is independent of the volume, and it can equally affect full-sized breasts (hypertrophy), normal breasts and small breasts (hypotrophy).

How is the surgery performed?

In a majority of cases the procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, although in certain cases it can be performed under local anaesthesia.

The procedure lasts between 2 and 3.5 hours, and the most common technique often leaves a scar around the areola and another one that runs vertically from the areola to the breast groove, creating an anchor shape. Once the new position of the areola and nipple is established and the amount of excess skin is estimated, the excess skin is removed and the breast is shaped.

After the surgery the patient is usually hospitalised for 24 hours, after which time the patient is allowed to go home and must wear an elastic bandage.
