Liposuction or liposculpture is a surgical procedure that removes localised fat that does not responding to exercise or diet and is usually located in the neck, arms, torso, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.
Liposuction reshapes the figure in the areas of the body that are affected by an accumulation of excess fat. This surgery has positive and lasting outcomes in the areas treated.
The best candidates for this surgery are those whose weight is close to their ideal weight but who have an excess of fat in certain areas of their body.
Liposuction or liposculpture can be done under local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation when the amount of fat that will be removed from one or more areas is small. If the planned liposuction treats a large area or is combined with other procedures, we usually use general anaesthesia.
The procedure lasts between 1 and 2 hours depending on the area to be treated. The surgical technique used consists of inserting a cannula connected to a vacuum system, which then extracts fat from the areas to be treated.
After surgery and depending on the type of anaesthesia, the patient may go home after about 4 hours or the next day after a night in the hospital.
