A biopsy is an invasive procedure performed under local anaesthetic which allows a sample of tissue to be taken for analysis under a microscope in order to diagnose a skin disease. There are various techniques for obtaining tissue samples depending on the type of lesion and its depth and size, but the final aim is the same: to diagnose and treat the disease.
Patients will receive their results within one or two weeks. Then, based on the outcome of the biopsy, we decide on a strategy for treating the disease.
