Acne is a disease of the sebaceous glands, which produce an oily substance called sebum. The pores are connected to these glands through a channel called the follicle, and within the follicle sebum carries dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. Fine hair also grows beneath the skin and passes through the follicle to reach the surface of the skin. When a follicle is blocked, a pimple or blackhead is formed.

Most pimples or blackheads are found on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders. Acne is the most common dermatological problem in adolescents and it can damage self-esteem in those who suffer from it. Furthermore, acne scars can leave permanent marks, which is why it is important to establish an appropriate treatment quickly.
