Early detection of melanoma

Skin cancerSkin care provided by the Dermatology Unit requires a comprehensive approach which also involves the Oncology Unit.

 

Sunburn caused by prolonged exposure to the sun increases the risk of suffering from melanoma, a disease in which cancerous cells called melanocytes (cells that colour the skin) are formed in the tissue of the skin.

 

The early detection programme for Skin Cancer includes:

▪ Taking a partial or total comparative image (according to the instructions of the specialist).

▪ Making a record of the nevus.

▪ Review after 6-12 months according to the criteria set out by the specialist.
