What is Facial Feminization Surgery?

At HC Marbella, we collaborate with a prestigious multidisciplinary group, FACIALTEAM, directed by world-leading specialists Dr. Luis Capitán (MD, PhD, MA Oral Surgery) and Dr. Daniel Simon (DMD, MA Oral Surgery).

Facial Feminization Surgery (or FFS Surgery) is an umbrella term for the maxillofacial techniques employed in the following two treatments:

 

– Facial Gender Confirmation Surgery (FGCS)
– Facial Harmonization Surgery, also known as Facial Bone Sculpture.

We receive a myriad of patients who are unhappy with different aspects of their facial contours. For example, typical reasons for seeking treatment include a prominent browbone, square jaw or chin, as well as transgender women seeking a gender-affirming surgical transition. In all cases, people who want to soften or feminize any facial structure and desire a “un-operated” result that leaves no visible scars.

Sculpting the facial bone structure provides a stable, long-term outcome that is not subject to the same agents of change as soft tissues, such as aging. The changes produced may be both dramatic and natural since the soft tissues (skin and muscles) adapt to the new underlying structure.

The key to highly satisfactory results is meticulous planning and the appropriate choice of techniques best suited to the patient. Treatment is based on the comprehensive analysis which occurs in the evaluation process: consultations, 3-D CT scans and avatar creation, virtual simulations, and most importantly, the ultimate needs and objectives of the patient.
