The Sleep Unit is directed by the head of the HC Marbella Pneumology Unit and integrated with the rest of the necessary medical equipment in order to offer the patient an integral and personalized service. In this unit, sleep studies are carried out for patients who can not rest during sleep hours, causes of possible sleep apnea, patients with sleep disorders or patients who snore.
Through the study of the sleep that can be performed in the HC Marbella facilities, with hospital admission or from the comfort of your home, you can know how the patient’s sleep is structured to detect any particular anomaly or disorder and treat and control them correctly.
At HC Marbella we can offer this service from the comfort of your home.
Sleep apnoea
Obstructive sleep apnoea is a disorder that causes pauses in breathing during sleep. The oxygen level drops for a few seconds before breathing continues. In most cases, patients do not even realise they are lacking air.
The repeated lack of oxygen impairs the ability to reach the deep, restful phases of sleep. Apnoeas lasting 10 seconds in adults or 3 seconds in children are enough to cause clinical repercussions.
Drops in blood oxygen levels that occur during sleep contribute to high blood pressure, heart attack and abnormal heart rhythms, as well as altering the quality of sleep. Some of the symptoms associated with sleep apnoea are: excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headache, loud irregular snoring, obesity, trouble concentrating on routine tasks, night sweats, morning dry mouth, hypertension, arrhythmias and frequent urination at night. Sleep apnoea is a condition that often goes undiagnosed and is only discovered when associated complications appear.
