As with all diseases, early detection of a neurological disease makes it possible to slow development, alleviate the effects and even to provide a cure.

 

In the case of dementia, early detection is essential. Dementia is a disease that develops very slowly in the brain, starting at the age of 40-45, without displaying symptoms until 10 years later or more. If it is detected before symptoms occur but whilst the disease does already exist, it is much easier to prevent it from getting worse. It is also easier to slow it down than it is to try to treat it when it has developed into advanced dementia

 

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), neurological disorders affect approximately 1 billion people around the world. An estimated 6.8 million people die each year as a result of a neurological disorder.

Neuro check-up

During periodic neurological health screening, commonly known as a neuro check-up, a medical assessment is performed using analysis of personal and family history, lifestyle assessment, physical examination, and appropriate additional investigations.

 

A neuro check-up is the perfect tool to understand your current neurological health, to correct and promote lifestyle habits and for early detection during initial stages when it is easier to treat.

 

It is aimed at people concerned about their neurological health:

 

  • People who have no symptoms but want to learn about their health status and possible risk factors.
  • People who do present symptoms, regardless of whether they are undergoing treatment or not, who want to evaluate the impact of their disease on other organs or systems and prevent future diseases.

Screening of Vascular Brain Pathology

  • Consultation and neurological examination. Request for appropriate neurological examinations.
  • Blood tests
  • Urinalysis
  • Weight check
  • Blood pressure check
  • Resting electrocardiogram, assessing the electrical activity of the heart at rest.
  • Stress test (ergometry), to analyse the response of the heart to exercise and to detect angina or arrhythmias.
  • Stress test with blood gas measurement, assessing the current state of cardiorespiratory integration, oxygen consumption during stress, and with successive studies, observing improvement in performance with regular sporting activity.
  • Echocardiogram, assessing the condition of the heart valves and the flow of blood through them, whilst detecting possible arrhythmias or angina.
  • Neurological tests based on findings in the assessment: Head MRI
  • Sleep studies to rule out obstructive apnoea as an independent vascular risk factor.
  • Nutritional study, with individual dietary guidelines 
  • Based on the findings, further examinations and tests can be requested.
