fascitis plantar

Description of the procedure

1
Ultrasounds will be used to confirm the diagnoses. Measuring the thickness of the plantar fascia and the position of the inflammation part of the plantar fascia.
2
Patient will be lying on  the couch for 15 minutes. A  local anaesthesia will be injected using the ultra fine needle.
3
Using the guidance of ultrasound a radio frequency needle will be inserted to target the  inflamed part of  the plantar fascia. The needle will performed a grid of tiny areas of ablation of the inflamed part of the plantar fascia.
4
These small areas of ablation will desensitize the thickened, inflamed and abnormally over sensitive  plantar fascia that is causing the pain. The ablation is instant. The  integrity of the plantar fascia will be preserved.
5
There will be no needles or injections, the radio frequency needle will be inserted through the side of the foot, avoiding the weight bearing. To avoid damage to the heel pad that are possible with other techniques and allow the patient to fully weigh the bear comfortably.
6
A small dose of steroid will be injected to reduce the inflammation following the ablation.
7
Typically within few weeks the plantar fasciitis will be cured and patient will be advised about activities to reduce the recurrence of the disease.
8
No follow-up will be needed in the clinic however a telephone consultation will be provided 6 weeks after the surgery.
9
The procedure is typically performed after other means such as physiotherapy, insoles, injections   have failed to relieve the patient symptoms however it can be provided as a primary measure.
